It is another Friday that sees the release of a sequel/franchise, and this time it is Sujoy Ghosh’s KAHAANI 2: DURGA RANI SINGH, the next from the director’s KAHAANI stable, which once again features Vidya Balan but with Arjun Rampal for company.
As far as the opening goes, it was a 20 percent start (on an average) predominantly at good multiplexes, which given the current box-office scenario (barring DEAR ZINDAGI), can be termed as fair, and if the film can manage a decent weekend from here on, it may well turn out to be a plus film, after accounting for non-theatrical rights, fingers crossed.
The first day is likely to be around the 4 crore mark.
Meanwhile last Friday’s premium release, Gauri Shinde’s Shah Rukh Khan (extended cameo) and Alia Bhatt starrer, DEAR ZINDAGI, managed a good haul during the opening week, netting in the 47-48 crore range, thanks mainly to the good multiplexes.
If the film can add even half of that (to its first week total) in the end count, it will turn out to be a rare post demonitazation success.
