Bollywood Box Office Report Of The Week: 6th Dec 2018

This Friday sees a solo release in the form Ronnie Screwvala and Pragya Kapoor’s KEDARNATH. The film did witness quite an initial hype when launched as it marked the debut of the (beautiful daughter of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh), both great and successful lead actors in their own rights, plus the holy and scenic locales of Uttarakhand dhaams, but the excitement did fade away a bit later on. However ‘Gattu’s (Abhishek Kapoor) movies have always been well crafted with excellent scripts and performances and so a good word of mouth will work in the favour. Having said that, the week old 2.0 will still prove quite hot to handle.

Checking out Shankar’s Rajnikanth-Akshay starrer, 2.0, the next in the highly successful ROBOT (ENTHIRAN/ENDHIRAN) series, the Hindi version surpassed the entire run of the prequl (20 crore) on the first day itself. The film went on to cross the 100 crore mark on the fifth day itself and is sure to end up as Akshay Kumar biggest netter of his career, thus far, surpassing his best solo starrer, ROWDY RATHORE (135 crore plus), though this time he has to share the laurels with Thalaiva Rajnikanth. 2.0 has also impressed in the overseas grossing £425,000 from UK and $3,700,000 from the US, during the opening weekend (November 30-December 2).

Moving on to the Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Arshad Warsi starrer, BHAIAJI SUPERHIT, the film could not make a mark at the ticket window as it collected 50 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 12.25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5.50 lakhs from Surat, 2.50 lakhs from Baroda, 5 lakhs from Pune, 2.75 lakhs from Nasik, 35 lakhs from Delhi city, 10 lakhs from Noida, 12.75lakhs from Ghaziabad, 8.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 8.25 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.50 lakhs from Agra,3.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 2 lakhs from Aligarh, 3.25 lakhs from Dehradun, 6.75 lakhs from Gurgaon, 5.25 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.25 lakhs from Amritsar, 1 lakh from Jammu, 1.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 3.50 lakhs from Raipur, 7 lakhs from Indore, 2 lakhs from Gwalior(collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 4 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 25 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unrecieved), 3 lakhs from Jodhpur, 1.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 2.50 lakhs from Kota, 2.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 5 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.50 lakhs from Aurangabad and 3 lakhs from Bangalore . Netting 5 crore during the opening week from India, BHAIAJI SUPERHIT has failed at the box-office.

Moving on to the still hot Dussehra release, Junglee Pictures’ Ayushmann, Sanya and Nina Gupta starrer, BADHAAI HO, the film saw another good week collecting 75 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 15.25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 7 lakhs from Surat, 4 lakhs from Baroda, 1.75 lakhs from Rajkot, 20 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Nasik, 85 lakhs from Delhi city, 22 lakhs from Noida, 15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 7 lakhs from Kanpur, 12 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.50 lakhs from Agra, 4 lakhs from Allahabad, 5.25 lakhs from Dehradun, 25 lakhs from Gurgaon, 7.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 1 lakh from Panipat, 5.25 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.55 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.25 lakhs from Amritsar, 2 lakhs from Ludhiana, 25 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.75 lakhs from Siliguri, 3.50lakhs from Patna, 2.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 2.75 lakhs from Ranchi, 1.50 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 1.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 6.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 6 lakhs from Raipur, 25 lakhs from Indore, 6.50 lakhs from Gwalior, 13 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 15 lakhs from Jaipur, 3.50 lakhs from Jodhpur, 1.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 2.25 lakhs from Kota , 2.75 lakhs from Udaipur, 7.50 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.50 lakhs from Aurangabad and 30 lakhs from Bangalore . Adding another 6.50 crore (a new 6th week record), BADHAAI HO has netted 133 crore in six weeks from India and is a blockbuster hit. BADHAAI HO is an overseas super hit grossing over $6.50m with £315,000 from UK and $3,000,000 from the US.

Concluding for the last time with Sriram Raghavan’s Ayushmann, Tabu and Radhika starrer, ANDHADHUN, the film mopped up another crore thereby netting 73.50 crore in eight weeks from India and is a hit plus. ANDHADHUN is also a good overseas success grossing over $2m with £118,000 from UK and $1,100,000 from the US.
