Akshay Kumar Breaks Silence on Retirement Plans and His Answer Will Surprise Fans

0

For years, fans have wondered when Akshay Kumar would slow down and take a break from his busy film career. However, the Bollywood star has now made it clear that retirement is not on his mind anytime soon. Speaking at the trailer launch of his upcoming film Welcome To The Jungle, Akshay addressed the ongoing rumours and shared his honest thoughts about stepping away from work.

The actor revealed that the idea of retirement does cross his mind, especially early in the morning. Akshay said that when he wakes up around 4 am, he sometimes thinks about retiring. But that thought lasts only a few seconds before reality kicks in. He quickly remembers that he has a film shoot to attend and that hundreds of people are waiting for him on set. According to the actor, this routine has been repeating itself for the last 36 years. Every time he thinks about retirement, work reminds him why he loves what he does.

Adding his trademark humour to the conversation, Akshay joked about what his life would look like if he actually retired. He said that staying at home would probably land him several new jobs. From becoming an electrician to walking dogs and taking care of gardening, he joked that he would end up handling all the household chores. For him, going to work seems like a much better option. That is one of the reasons he believes retirement is not the right choice for him right now.

Akshay also spoke about spending more time with his family. While many people assume he would enjoy a break at home, the actor revealed that he has already tried taking time off in the past. Surprisingly, it did not last very long. He shared that after just one day, his family started asking him when he would return to work. That experience convinced him that staying active and busy suits him best.

The actor also shared his personal view on retirement itself. He believes people should continue working as long as they can and should not worry too much about retiring. According to Akshay, staying active and doing meaningful work can help people lead a happier and longer life.

With a career spanning more than three decades and more than 150 films, Akshay Kumar remains one of Bollywood’s most hardworking and successful stars. And if his latest comments are anything to go by, fans can expect to see much more of him on the big screen in the years ahead.

Peddi Crosses Rs 345 Crore Worldwide Despite Controversy And Competition

Ram Charan’s sports drama Peddi continues to perform strongly at the box office despite facing controversy and competition from several new releases. The film collected Rs 7.55 crore on its seventh day, taking its total India net collection to Rs 187.25 crore. After earning more than Rs 60 crore during its opening weekend, the film has shown a gradual decline in daily collections. Peddi earned Rs 9.70 crore on Tuesday before collecting Rs 7.55 crore on Wednesday. Even with the drop, the film has maintained a strong presence in cinemas and remains one of the top performing releases currently in theatres.

According to an official update from the production team, Peddi has crossed Rs 345 crore in worldwide gross collections within just 7 days of its release. The film recorded its highest single day collection on its opening day, Thursday, when it earned Rs 51 crore across 12142 shows in India.

The action sports drama has been competing with films such as Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Bandar and the Hollywood horror thriller Obsession. However, in the absence of another major star driven release, Peddi has managed to retain a strong hold at the box office.

The film recently found itself at the centre of controversy due to scenes involving Janhvi Kapoor’s character. Some viewers criticised the film for what they described as the objectification and hypersexualisation of the female lead. Following the backlash, director Buchi Babu Sana issued a public apology and confirmed that the scenes in question had been removed from the film.

Speaking to SCREEN, the filmmaker said, “In this process, a few shots turned misleading. We have taken corrective measures to remove them, and we have removed them.”

Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi features Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles. The supporting cast includes Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu and Boman Irani. The film’s music has been composed by AR Rahman.

Apart from its domestic success, Peddi has also performed well internationally. According to Sacnilk estimates, the film has crossed the $5 million mark at the overseas box office within its first week. Its international gross collection currently stands at approximately Rs 48.80 crore.

With a worldwide gross of more than Rs 345 crore in 7 days and strong audience turnout across markets, Peddi has emerged as one of the biggest box office performers of the year so far.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Surprises With Strong Weekday Hold At The Box Office

Varun Dhawan’s comedy drama Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai continued its run at the Indian box office with collections of around Rs. 2.75 crore to Rs. 2.85 crore on its sixth day, Wednesday. The film recorded a drop of approximately 15 to 20 per cent compared to Monday’s earnings, which is considered a reasonably steady hold during the weekdays.

With its latest collection, the film’s total earnings have reached Rs. 33.50 crore nett in India after 6 days of release. Starring Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur, the movie is now expected to end its first week with a total of around Rs. 36 crore nett.

The film’s box office journey has been somewhat unusual. After its release, there were concerns about its performance when collections on Saturday dropped compared to the opening day. Since the opening itself was considered below expectations, the decline led many to believe that the film could struggle in the coming days.

However, the movie has managed to maintain decent weekday collections, which has helped keep its overall run stable. While a ticket pricing offer is currently available and may have contributed to some footfalls, it did not significantly boost the opening day numbers. As a result, its steady weekday performance has drawn attention within trade circles.

Industry observers have noted similarities with another film released earlier this year that struggled during its opening weekend but managed to hold well during weekdays. That film eventually slowed down once external support factors ended. It remains to be seen whether Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai follows a similar pattern in the coming weeks.

The film is expected to face tougher competition in its second week as several new Bollywood and Hollywood releases are scheduled to arrive in cinemas, including Main Vaapas Aaunga, Governor, Disclosure Day and Backrooms. The arrival of new films could reduce its screen count and affect future collections.

Despite the challenges, the movie now has a realistic chance of crossing Rs. 50 crore nett in India, a target that appeared difficult after its weekend performance. The previous Varun Dhawan film, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsii Kumari, collected Rs. 60 crore nett, and reaching a similar figure remains a possibility.

The film’s day wise collections stand at Rs. 7.50 crore on Day 1, Rs. 7.40 crore on Day 2, Rs. 8.75 crore on Day 3, Rs. 3.35 crore on Day 4, Rs. 3.70 crore on Day 5 and Rs. 2.80 crore on Day 6, taking the total to Rs. 33.50 crore nett.

Obsession Refuses To Slow Down As Box Office Numbers Continue To Rise

The horror thriller Obsession continues to perform steadily at the Indian box office, showing strong momentum even in its second week. The film collected Rs. 4 crore on its second Wednesday, registering a drop of around 10 per cent compared to its discounted Tuesday collections. Compared to the previous Wednesday, the decline was approximately 15 per cent, indicating that the film is maintaining a solid hold among audiences.

With this latest collection, Obsession has taken its total India gross to Rs. 54.25 crore in 13 days, including paid preview screenings. The film stars Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette in the lead roles and has emerged as one of the stronger performing Hollywood releases in the country this year.

Based on its current trend, the film is expected to finish its second week with a total gross of around Rs. 58 crore. Industry estimates suggest that the absence of any major new release next weekend could work in the film’s favour. As a result, Obsession is expected to witness another jump in collections during its third weekend.

Current projections indicate that the film could earn between Rs. 12 crore and Rs. 15 crore during its third weekend run. If it achieves those numbers, its overall collection could move close to the Rs. 75 crore mark in India. The film is also being viewed as a strong contender to become the highest grossing Hollywood release of 2026 in the country, potentially surpassing Michael and Project Hail Mary.

The film’s day wise box office performance has shown consistent growth after a modest opening. It collected Rs. 0.55 crore in paid previews, followed by Rs. 1.60 crore on Friday, Rs. 3.25 crore on Saturday and Rs. 3.75 crore on Sunday. During its first week, collections remained stable with earnings of Rs. 2.50 crore on Monday, Rs. 3.40 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 3.40 crore on Wednesday and Rs. 3.40 crore on Thursday.

The second weekend brought a significant boost, with the film collecting Rs. 4.00 crore on Friday, Rs. 8.00 crore on Saturday and Rs. 8.75 crore on Sunday. It then added Rs. 4.15 crore on Monday, Rs. 4.50 crore on Tuesday and Rs. 4.00 crore on its second Wednesday.

With strong word of mouth and stable weekday collections, Obsession remains one of the most successful Hollywood releases currently playing in Indian cinemas.

Aamir Khan And Gauri Spratt Spark Wedding Buzz With Latest Airport Appearance

Actor Aamir Khan has been in the spotlight since he introduced Gauri Spratt as his partner during celebrations surrounding his 60th birthday in 2025. During an interaction with the media, the actor publicly confirmed their relationship, ending months of speculation. Recently, reports suggested that the couple is preparing to get married in July, and Aamir later confirmed the development himself.

Ahead of the reported wedding date, Aamir Khan and Gauri Spratt were spotted together at Mumbai airport on the morning of June 11. The couple was seen walking hand in hand through the terminal before leaving in a car. They also briefly posed for photographers present at the airport.

For the outing, Aamir opted for a simple and casual look, wearing a black T shirt, matching trousers, a black cap and his trademark spectacles. Gauri was dressed in a navy blue co ord outfit. Videos and photographs of the pair quickly gained attention online, with many fans sharing positive reactions and heart emojis on social media.

Their latest public appearance comes amid reports that the couple is expected to marry on July 5. According to reports, the wedding is likely to be a private affair attended only by family members and close friends. Sources have suggested that the couple plans to keep the celebrations simple and may opt for a registered marriage ceremony at home.

The reported wedding plans have also drawn reactions from members of the film industry. Veteran actress Rakhee Gulzar recently shared her thoughts on the news while speaking to Variety India. She said, “What is wrong with marrying at 60? Robert de Niro has been married twice and is now in a relationship (with partner Tiffany Chen), with whom he shares a daughter born in 2023. They had a child when he was more than 80 years old. Happiness in a marriage is not about age. I got married when Gulzar was almost 40.”

She further added, “I am not in touch with the goings-on in the film industry, nor have I worked with Aamir Khan. But I do know he is a very sincere person. And I love the way he has maintained his friendship with his two wives (Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao) even after the marriage. It says a lot about him.”

Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he shares two children, Ira and Junaid Khan. The couple separated in 2002. He later married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005, and they welcomed their son Azad Rao Khan. In 2021, Aamir and Kiran announced their separation but have continued to maintain a cordial relationship while co parenting their son.

Alpha and the enduring legacy of La Femme Nikita

0

The teaser of Alpha has sparked an interesting debate. Within minutes of its release, social media was flooded with comparisons to the 1990 French classic La Femme Nikita. Some viewers pointed to the restaurant sequence, others highlighted the mentor-protégé relationship, while a section of the audience went a step further and accused the film of borrowing heavily from Luc Besson’s cult thriller.

But the conversation may be missing the bigger picture. The real story is not whether Alpha resembles La Femme Nikita. The more fascinating question is why, more than three decades later, every female-assassin thriller continues to be viewed through the lens of a film released in 1990.

Certain movies become so influential that they stop being judged as individual works and start functioning as blueprints for entire genres. The Godfather became the benchmark for gangster dramas. Jaws became the template for creature thrillers. In much the same way, La Femme Nikita became the foundation on which the modern female-assassin thriller was built.

Before Nikita, female characters who killed existed in cinema, but they were rarely the driving force of the narrative. They were often femme fatales, supporting characters, villains or occasional action heroes. What La Femme Nikita did differently was place a woman at the centre of a story that was both deeply emotional and unapologetically violent. The film followed a troubled young woman who is recruited by a secret government agency, trained to become an assassin and forced to navigate a life torn between human vulnerability and professional brutality.

That premise proved remarkably enduring. The recruit who is given a new identity. The rigorous training. The mentor who shapes a killer. The struggle to reconcile ordinary human desires with extraordinary violence. The question of whether someone transformed into a weapon can ever truly reclaim their humanity. These are themes that continue to appear across the genre even today.

The influence of La Femme Nikita can be seen in everything from its own television adaptations to films such as Salt, Atomic Blonde, Anna, Red Sparrow and Ballerina. Each of these titles has its own personality and ambitions, yet all of them draw from a narrative vocabulary that Nikita helped popularise. The settings may change, the action may become more elaborate and the production values may grow larger, but the emotional framework often remains strikingly familiar.

What makes Nikita’s legacy so powerful is that it was never solely about espionage. The assassinations, the missions and the intrigue were only one part of the story. At its heart, the film was about identity. It explored what happens when a person is stripped of one life and forced into another. It examined the cost of survival, the longing for normalcy and the emotional damage caused by turning a human being into an instrument of violence.

That is precisely why audiences instinctively connected Alpha to La Femme Nikita. Based on everything officially revealed so far, the two films do not appear to share the same plot. Alpha seems to revolve around a character who has been groomed for espionage from a young age, whereas Nikita centred on a delinquent who is forcibly transformed into an assassin after being given a second chance at life. Yet viewers immediately saw a connection because the imagery, themes and character dynamics belong to a cinematic language that Nikita helped define.

In many ways, the reaction to Alpha says less about the film itself and more about the extraordinary cultural footprint of La Femme Nikita. Some films influence a generation. Others influence an entire genre. Nikita belongs firmly in the latter category. Its fingerprints are visible across decades of storytelling, often in ways that filmmakers themselves may not even consciously recognise.

This creates a unique challenge for contemporary filmmakers. Any attempt to tell a story about a female assassin risks inviting comparisons to Nikita, regardless of how original the actual narrative may be. The film’s influence is so deeply embedded within the genre that separating inspiration from coincidence becomes increasingly difficult.

Perhaps that is the true measure of a classic. More than thirty-five years after its release, La Femme Nikita continues to shape the way audiences perceive female-assassin stories. Every new entrant is compared against it, consciously or otherwise. The genre has evolved, expanded and reinvented itself countless times, but it is still speaking a language that Nikita helped create.

That is why the debate surrounding Alpha ultimately leads back to the same conclusion. The question is not whether the film resembles La Femme Nikita. The question is whether any female-assassin thriller can ever completely escape its shadow.

Riteish Deshmukh And Farah Khan Take Charge In Netflix’s New Reality Show Lock Upp

0

Netflix is set to introduce a new reality series, Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa, which explores how public perception can differ from reality. In a time when opinions are often formed quickly and social media plays a major role in shaping narratives, the show focuses on revealing the stories behind well known personalities.

Created through a collaboration between Netflix and Balaji Telefilms Ltd, the series places contestants in a controlled and high pressure environment designed to test their emotions, decision making abilities and relationships with fellow participants. The format combines reality television with challenges that encourage participants to reveal more about themselves while dealing with unexpected situations.

The show will be hosted by Riteish Deshmukh and Farah Khan, who take on the role of “Jailers.” Their responsibility is to oversee the game as 14 well known personalities enter the Lock Upp as “inmates.” Once inside, contestants are cut off from the outside world and must live under strict conditions while taking part in a variety of tasks and challenges.

As the competition progresses, inmates will be required to make difficult decisions, form alliances and adapt to changing situations. Every action and choice has the potential to influence their position in the game. The format is designed to create situations where relationships can change quickly and contestants may be forced to rethink their strategies.

Beyond the competition, the show also focuses on personal stories and public perception. Contestants are given opportunities to talk about experiences, challenges and events that may have shaped how they are viewed by the public. The series aims to examine the difference between public image and personal reality.

According to the show’s concept, truth plays a central role in the competition. Participants must decide how much they are willing to reveal while balancing the demands of the game. As the tagline suggests, “truth isn’t just power — it’s a currency that can set you free.”

Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa will stream exclusively on Netflix starting June 27. New episodes will be available every Sat-Wed at 8:00 PM, giving viewers a chance to follow the contestants’ journey as they navigate challenges, relationships and the pressures of life inside the Lock Upp.
